I blog too much, I'm like annoying myself but bare with me and my head full of thoughts. Right now, I am trying to get through these calc chapters. It's not working out, I need a break for real. k-os is helping me get through calc right now, been spinning Yes! since I picked up my pen (yes I use pen for math)...
Here's a big track called I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman. If you've ever watched The OC you'll recognize the sample used (lol); produced by Rich Kidd. It features fellow Canadian artists; Saurates and Nelly Furtado...
k-os - "I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman" [Feat. Saurates & Nelly Furtado]
The title seems weird and random. And it's just that. Super random. The same track is on Saurates album, only titled, On The Run. k-os didn't wanna name it the same thing so he was asked what he wanted to name it; so he just said I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman, being a Star Wars fan I guess? Yep, trust me on that, I watched the MOD recap from Tuesday, lol.
The album is serious. Never left my house for more than 20 mins, so I have yet to pick it up. But I'll get at that tomorrow because I'm in the BCC area anyways. The last album I purchased was 808's!?!? geez...
Still need to pick up Ryan Leslie and The Death of Adam (88-Keys) which is an amazing album that I can rave about, but just not now. Just never had the funds--until now! GST cheque!!! yeah, ballin, lol.
Anyways, Yes! is just k-os being k-os--quality hip-hop, quality music. The album features people like Emily Haines of Metric and Murray Lightburn of The Dears; both lead singers of Canadian indie rock bands. Also the aforementioned, Saukates and Nelly Furtado are on the album.
It's the follow-up to 2006's Atlantis: Hymns For Disco. The album artwork looks dope. It also features throwback pictures of his mom and dad, which I saw while watching MOD.
The beginnging half of the disc is solid. Zambony is the intro to the album; it's followed by Astronaut where he spits a bit of girl issues and the way he switches up flow on the last verse is pretty ill, which starts with, "I'm slowing down thoughts to the point of observation". Then on Burning Bridges he goes from singing to just biting your head off near the middle, and just tells you why you should 'clap for your life'...
The heavily guitar-riffed track, Uptown Girl, is a catchy song, which features the two aforementioned indie-rock singers on the same track. In it, k-os talks a bit about being a city kid and he says, "I'm not from the ghetto, but my mama is and she's an uptown girl"...
One of my fave songs is The Aviator, where he just delivers truth in handfulls. Everyone that's just trying to live life right can connect to it; this is seen in the chorus when he declares, "I'm just a man, doing the best I can". Another one of my favourites is FUN! where he addresses the music industry, "fake rock stars that hide behind guitars". Uhm, take that Lil' Wayne? Probably a shot to Wayne's 'music', but when you're ill, it's all justified...
Basically, a solid album from k-os and I'm definitely gonna go out and support it 'cause now I have the deniro. k-os carrying Canadian hip hop ftw...
"On the microphone like, yes!..."(c)k-os
I'm out like k-os' 4th, this past Tuesday...
